Made in Yorkshire to sit on All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group

Made in Yorkshire are delighted to announce that we have been accepted as associate members of the All-Party Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG).

The APMG is a cross-party coalition of parliamentarians and manufacturing sector organisations which work to develop new industrial policy ideas, critique existing government decision-making around manufacturing, communicate within Parliament the importance of a well-balanced productive economy, and help the manufacturing community better engage with the policy process.

The APMG is co-chaired by Barry Sheerman, MP for Huddersfield, and Chris White, MP for Warwick and Leamington, and has over 30 members who sit in the House of Commons and House of Lords. The group also has 26 industrial supporters including manufacturers, trade associations, trade unions and academics.

The move fills a much-needed gap for Northern manufacturers to sit on a platform with world class brands such as from Rolls Royce, BAE Systems and GKN to speak directly with politicians and ministers through events such as roundtable discussions hosted by APMG; ensuring that the wider Yorkshire manufacturing community is represented at a national level. There will be opportunities to join roundtables via video link and on occasion, in person.

Jason comments: “During a meeting with the APMG it was agreed that both Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire would join the group. This resembles yet another win for Made in Yorkshire members as we continue to ensure the voice of Yorkshire manufacturers and engineers are heard at the highest levels in order to influence government policy and better understand the needs of the sector in our region.”

Dr George Dibb, Head of Manufacturing, Design and Innovation at Policy Connect and manager of the APMG, said “We’re really excited to welcome Made in Yorkshire and Made in the Midlands to the APMG and are looking forward to hearing the views of regional manufacturers from across the UK. We believe that a stronger voice for industry in parliament results in better public policy in the manufacturing sector, and the more voices we get in the discussion, the better.”

This great news comes amidst a wealth of positivity for Made in Yorkshire, as we look forward to our first collaborative exhibition at Manufactured Yorkshire 2017 on Wednesday 10th May at the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road, Leeds.
